PAINTER

Students learn to finish exterior and interior surfaces by applying protective or decorating coating materials. Workstation includes instruction in sanding surfaces and applying coating with brush or roller. Students explore a variety of job tasks in applying paint, varnish, and other finishes to building surfaces to decorate or protect them. Students learn that one of the primary duties of a painter is to prepare the surface to be painted.

CURRICULUM: 
Curriculum manual is provided in a three-ring binder, with pages contained in page protectors. Easy to follow step by step activities are highlighted using full color photographs. Once introduced to career related information (job description, education and training requirements, job prospects, and income ranges) the student begins a "hands on" work experience, using professional tools of the trade to complete projects or tasks. An audio tape follows the manual word-for-word. Pre-and post tests, worksheets, answer sheets, and instructors guide.

PAINTER WORKSTATION: 
Stand-up workstation with see-through locking tool cabinet, padlock/key, supply drawer, power strip, and audio cassette player with headphones.

TOOL CABINET: 
Safety glasses, paper towel holder, masking tape, claw hammer, can opener, 11/2" paint brush, paint edge guide, 1" putty knife, mixing stick, paint roller, sanding block, paint container, primer container, and mixing container.

EQUIPMENT/CONSUMABLES MATERIALS: 
Mounted divider board, mounted drop cloth hooks, aprons, 9"x12" drop cloth, roller pan, paper towels, rolls of masking tape, sandpaper, roller replacements, paint, primer, spackle, paint tint.

 

  Hands On Activities  HANDS ON  ACTIVITIES:  
    • Prepare painting area
    • Prepare surface to be painted
    • Mix the paint
    • Tint paint
    • Apply the paint with roller and brush
