Students construct two wall sections, learning to lay out, erect, install, and repair wooden
structures and fixtures using hand tools. Workstation includes instruction in common systems of framing,
construction materials, estimating, and blueprint reading.
CURRICULUM:
Curriculum manual is provided in a three-ring binder,
with pages contained in page protectors. Easy to follow
step by step activities are highlighted using full color
photographs. Once introduced to career related information
(job description, education and training requirements,
job prospects, and income ranges) the student begins a "hands
on" work experience, using professional tools of the
trade to complete projects or tasks. An audio tape follows
the manual word-for-word. Pre-and post tests,
worksheets, answer sheets, and instructors guide.
CARPENTER WORKSTATION
Read and interpret a blueprint
Measure and cut the studs and fire stops in a standard construction wall
Lay out the parts of the construction wall and nail them together
Tilt up the construction wall into place and nail it to the floor and adjacent wall
Check the verticle ("plumb") of the wall
Disassemble the wall and prepare the work area for the next user. A second wall is built to include window framing.
EQUIPMENT/CONSUMABLE MATERIALS:
Set of saw horses, aprons, carpenters nail apron, (2)
5# box double head nails, (3) 5# box 16D sinkers, lumber
pack, carpenters pencil.
CARPENTER WORKSTATION:
Stand-up workstation w/ see thru locking tool cabinet,
padlock and key, supply drawer, power strip, and
audio cassette player with headphones.
